Welcome to JUCAVM!

Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCAVM) has a rich history, evolution, and current academic offerings. JUCAVM is dedicated to academic excellence, societal impact, and advancing agricultural sciences in Ethiopia. JUCAVM was initially established in 1952 as the Jimma Agricultural Technical School. Over time, it underwent significant administrative and structural changes. These included partnerships with Oklahoma State University and collaboration with various Ethiopian government ministries. The college became the Jimma Institute of Agriculture and later merged with the Jimma Institute of Health Sciences in 1999 to form Jimma University. JUCAVM now offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across six departments: (Horticulture and Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Agricultural Economics and Agri-business Management, Rural Development and Agricultural Extension, and Post-Harvest Management) and a School of Veterinary Medicine. The college is deeply committed to research, technology transfer, and community involvement. Initiatives such as technology villages in the Jimma Zone demonstrate JUCAVM’s focus on applying knowledge to real-world problems. The college also addresses pressing issues like gender equality, climate change, and inclusive education. JUCAVM aims to be a leading agricultural research institution, combining theoretical education with hands-on learning experiences. It strives to produce graduates who can contribute to the sustainable development of society by addressing challenges through innovative solutions.
