Public Lecture on “The Challenges of Peace Building” at JU.

Professor Ann M.-Gerald, a renowned scholar from Cranfield University’s Department of Management and Security made a public lecture on the topic “The Challenges of Peace Building: Implications for Ethiopia” to the Senate members, Jimma University community and post-graduate students at the University on Friday, April 20,2018 at the Senate Hall located at the main campus of the University.

Ann Fitz-Gerald, prior to commencing her PhD, has completed degrees in Business Administration, Political Science and Strategic Studies. She has worked in the financial sector, with the Government of Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and held posts at the International Lester B Pearson Peacekeeping Center, the UN, NATO headquarters and in Nairobi on issues concerning Somalia. During her time in Brussels, she focused on the accession strategies of central and East European countries. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Besides working in different Universities, she has become Associate Dean for research in 2006 and developed the masters program in  Security Sector Management, which is delivered today both in the UK and East Africa. She published on issues concerning national security and institutional reform, as well as strategic planning for national policy development. In addition to her publishing record, she has advised and worked with Governments of a number of transitional and developing countries on issues related to national security policy/strategic issues (including Nigeria, Ukraine, Poland, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Botswana, East Timor, Sierra Leone and Trinidad Tobago). In November 2012, she was awarded the Queen’s medal for her contribution to peace and security dialogue in Africa. She has regularly worked in Ethiopia for the past 15 years, 

The public lecture proceeded in an interesting manner in which every participant followed enthusiastically and raised questions for more clarification. The occasion ended up after Prof. Fikre Lemessa, JU President, Expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the timely and educative lecture of hers.
