Jimma University College of Business and Economics conducted workshop on Practice and challenges of Hotel and Tourism in Jimma Zone from April 23-24, 2019. The major objectives of the workshop were on how to make the potential tourist destination sites visible for tourists. The workshop was attended by 50 participants from Jimma Zone culture and tourism office experts and Hotel owners and representatives.
JU in collaboration with PXL-University College launched a project entitled “Integrated Evidence Based Practice for Health Professionals” on April 15th, 2019.

Jimma University is hosting a scientific workshop in the areas of Microbiology and Ecology in collaboration with the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Science. The workshop is being held at JU’s Big Senate Hall on 20th April 2019. Present on the event and attending the workshop are seven seasoned professors from IMCAS, China, professors from the department of Biology of JU and post graduate students from the College of Natural Sciences.
JU President, Dr. Jemal Abafita and Delegates from Ministry of Heath, Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Ethiopian Medical Association had a fruitful discussion today (April 19, 2019) with Jimma University Medical Interns. A consensus was reached as to how the prior concerns of the students are to be addressed in no time, and procedurally on the ones which involve the MoH, MoSHE, EMA and other stakeholders.
Jimma University conducted its 10th Annual Research Conference and the 9thGlobal Knowledge Exchange Network (GKEN) Interdisciplinary Knowledge Exchange event jointly co-hosted with GKEN, a network established by Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia residing in UK and beyond, to promote knowledge sharing and exchange in support of the developing world.
The 2nd Scientific Colloquium of Department of Epidemiology, College of Public Health, Jimma University was held on 15th of April, 2019. The aim of academic colloquium is to provide the discussion platform for academic environment on scientific issues.
April 11, 2019: Jimma University Community Services Directorate Office organized a panel discussion on “Life skills intervention on Khat use and its impacts among Serbo high schools with teachers selected from different schools.
The primary aim of the panel is to discuss on effective life skills implementation on reducing the tendency to use khat and to create awareness on the impacts of khat use on mental and physical health among high school students and teachers.
The Nematology Summer Course is a 6 weeks training in the period July – August and will run for 3 consecutive years. The second edition will be in the summer of 2019 and run from 8 July - 16 August 2019. This course is offered to staff working in different Ethiopian universities and research institutions with a focus on staff involved in plant protection. Course participants will have access to the lab facilities of the Plant nematology laboratory, greenhouse facilities, digital demonstrations and ICT facilities at JUCAVM.
Jimma University’s CISCO Academy organizes the Instructors’ Professional Development (IPD) Workshop at Jupiter International Hotel in Addis Ababa from 2nd to 3rd April, 2019. The workshop aims at enhancing the capacity of all academies, in introducing new curricula and concepts and overall discussion on challenges and opportunities of running the academies in Ethiopia and beyond.
