Delegates from University of Cincinnati (USA) Visits JU

February 28, 2019: Delegates composed of four International office faculty member (Vanessa Allen-Brown, Geneva Miller, Ana Vamadeva and Raj Mehta) from the UC are visiting JU from 27-28th February, 2019. 

The partnership between the two institutions started through email and skype communication for the last one year.  The visit was very much effective in allowing the two institutions get to know each other and paved the way in identifying potential areas for future collaboration.

JU students’ project empowering citizens with disability and women

February 23, 2019: Students of MA in Project Management and Finance at ABH Campus, Addis Ababa handed over their DTTP project to communities at Nefas Silk Lafto, Gulele, and Kirkos Sub Cities. The projects handed over to the community are targeted at empowering women and people with disability.

Accordingly, a project of revenue generation through poultry farm has been handed over to 18 individuals with disability at Nifas Silk Lafto Sub City.


Gadaa Journal, a Multidisciplinary Bilingual Journal of the Institute of Oromoo Studies (IOS) invites interested contributors to submit scholarly manuscripts pertinent to Oromoo life and work (Jiruufi Jireenya) for publication for its June 2019 Issue (Vol. 2, No.2).
The contributions can be in the forms of original articles, review articles, book reviews and short communications written either in Afaan Oromoo or English.

JU signs agreement with IBA Ethiopia

(Feb 19, 2019) JU signs agreement with IBA Ethiopia a Norwegian based company engaged in providing business and investment consulting, training and mentoring services to business startups and entrepreneurs, organizing and hosting business , investment and entrepreneurship related events as well as setting up and running business, investment and entrepreneurship excellence and training centers.

On 22nd of January 2019, Jimma University hosted a workshop on " The Establishment of Governance and Development Studies consortium of Ethiopian universities “. The workshop was organized by Department of Governance and Development Studies, College of Law and Governance, Jimma university. 

‘Hearing from the horse’s mouth’- IOS Seminar on ‘Afaan Oromoo and Oromoo Literature’ concluded

IOS at JU conducted a historic seminar deliberating on the story of Qubee and folklore as a foundation of Oromoo Literature from January 22-23, 2019. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Kora Tushune, Acting President of Jimma University, who warmly welcomed the honorable guest speakers, and reflected on the contributions of JU in the development of Oromoo scholarship. JU Senate, staff and students attended the event.
