January 17, 2018: Jimma University Center of Excellence in Education hosted a sensitization workshop with education stakeholders from Jimma Zone and Town.
On January 12, 2018, Jimma University hosted an event in which 101 computers were handed over to three schools in Jimma Town namely Jimma Ababuna, Jiren No2 and Jimma Comprehensive School.
The computers were provided by Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) and Korean Environment Institute (KEI) with the initiative of Dr. Kaba Urgessa, the state Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and former president of Jimma University.
JU’s Women and Youth Affair Office has been awarding female students who have scored high grades for more than a decade. This year too, the Office organized the award ceremony on January 11, 2018 at the newly built Mini-Stadium located at the Main Campus. The primary aim of the award is to motivate female students to achieve better results during their academic stay and further beyond. The Ceremony took place in the presence of Professor Taye Tolemariam, Vice President for Academics, the University’s Senate members and students.
January 10, 2018: Jimma University College of Business and Economics in collaboration with Jimma Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association hosted a half day forum on ‘The Role of Universities, Government and Private Sectors in Enhancing Development’. The conference was attended by JU Senate members and staff, Jimma Town Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association, Jimma Town administration, the business community, and representatives from private and government sectors.
A project kick-off meeting on “Nematology Summer Course – Ethiopia“ was held on Jan 8 and 9, 2018 at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Jimma University. This project is based on institutional bilateral agreement between Ghent University and Jimma University for educational and research exchange.
Jimma University has got BID national grant to mobilize biodiversity data under ‘Biodiversity Information for Development and Environmental Resilience in Southwestern Ethiopia (BIDERSE)’. BIDERSE project will be implemented together with Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) and the Kafa Biosphere Reserve which is managed by NABU. This project is intended to internationally mobilize and publish biodiversity information available by Jimma University, NABU, EBI and all other relevant organization and individuals in Ethiopia.
